Hong Kit Wong heads into the inaugural Leapmotor Singapore Open as the player everyone is chasing. After capturing back-to-back PPA Tour Asia gold medals, the Malaysian star is aiming to make it three consecutive titlesn a feat that would further cement his status as one of Asia's most in-form pickleball players.
The biggest question isn't whether Wong has the talent—he has already proven that. The challenge is whether anyone can execute the blueprint that finally slowed him down. In the Macao Open final, Japan's Tama Shimabukuro disrupted Wong's rhythm by turning the match into long side-out rallies, neutralizing Wong's serve and forcing him into extended exchanges. It was one of the few times Wong was denied the opportunity to dictate play.
As Singapore approaches, every contender will be studying that match, looking for a way to prevent Wong from claiming a historic third straight PPA Tour Asia gold. But until someone consistently beats him, Hong Kit Wong remains the man to beat.
